National Student TV Awards

The NSTV Awards have been deprecated in favor of a new Regional Student TV Awards competition, about which information and links to entry forms can be found here.

History of the NSTV Awards

The National Student Television Award for Excellence (NSTV), was created by The Foundation of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to promote best practices of television production to high school students.

The NSTV Awards were offered as an incentive to high school students to achieve excellence in television journalism and to focus public attention on outstanding student achievements in television production.

Entries from high schools located in the Lower Great Lakes Chapter area were first judged by professionals in New York to determine regional winners. Then, those regional winners were judged again, along with entries from Academy Chapters across America, by a blue-ribbon panel to select a national winner in seven different categories.

Late in 2008, The Foundation of NATAS advised all Chapters that funding for judging and operating the NSTV program was not available for 2008 programming, and that entries could not be submitted to the National Foundation’s website as in past years.

Following that announcement, The Board of Governors of The Lower Great Lakes Chapter voted to cancel the 2008 NSTV Awards for this region because there wasn’t time, volunteers and funding to conduct a regional NSTV contest.

Stay tuned to this webpage for further announcements about whether an NSTV Regional and/or National Awards program will be re-instated in 2009.
