Credits Necessary For Voting In
The Primetime Emmy Competition
Please note that any
requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or
percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have
been met within the four years preceding one’s application for additional
ballot(s); also, such requirements apply in each instance to production or
distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.
ANIMATION:Primary
employment in one or more of the following verifiable positions for at least 2
years or credits on 25 half-hours of Animation Production for national
exhibition or credits on specials or episodes that have received an Emmy
nomination or Emmy Award for national exhibition. Categories of employment are:
Animation Checker, Animation Computer Programmer, Animation Modeler, Animation
Sculptor, Animation Technical Director, Animator, Background
Artist/Stylist/Color Director, Camera Operator, Character Designer, Director
(includes Animation Voice Director), Executive Producer, Film-Tape Editor, Ink & Paint Supervisor, Layout Artist, Producer, Production Designer/Art
Director, Production Manager or equivalent, Scene Planner, Special Effects
Artist, Storyboard Artist, Voice Performer, Writer.
ART DIRECTION: A minimum of 3 years professional experience within a 4 year
period with screen credit as Production Designer, Set Decorator, Art Director
or Scenic Designer (
CASTING
DIRECTORS: Responsible
for casting or supervising casting for a minimum of 25 hours of
telecommunications for national exhibition.
CHILDREN’S
PROGRAMMING: Involvement
in Children’s Television Programming or Children’s New Media Programming for a
minimum of 2 years in the capacity of Executive, Producer, Writer, Director or
Talent and at least 75% of work must be in Children’s Television Programming or
Children’s New Media Programming.
CINEMATOGRAPHY: Screen credit
as Director of Photography on at least 10 hours of programming for national
exhibition.
COMMERCIALS: Employment in
one of the classifications covered by the other Peer Groups (except Performers)
on at least 25 national commercials or employment as a Performer in at least 15
national commercials. For Infomercials: applicants need to meet all current
qualifications of the branch and have participated in a minimum of 12
infomercials or a combination of a minimum of 5 infomercials and a minimum of
10 commercials for National Exhibition.
COSTUME
DESIGN & SUPERVISION: Employment as Costume Designer or Costume Supervisor on at least
25 hours of programming for national exhibition.
DAYTIME
PROGRAMMING: Primary
professional function in the area of Daytime Programming for a minimum of 2
years in one or more of the following areas: Associate Director, Associate
Producer, Contestant Coordinator, Director, Performer, Producer, Production
Executive, Talent Executive, Television Executive or Writer.
DIRECTORS: Screen
credits as Director, Choreographer, UPM (Film), First A.D. (Film), A. D.
(Video), Stage Manager (Video), Script Supervisor (Film and/or Video) on at
least 15 hours for national exhibition or 5 movies of the week within a 10-year
period.
ELECTRONIC
PRODUCTION: Employment
in one or more of the following positions on at least 25 hours of programming
for national exhibition: Lighting Director/Lighting Designer, Director of
Photography (Video), Electronic Camera, Engineering (including Maintenance,
Design, and Management), Technical Director, Technical Operations (including
New Technologies), Video Control (including Live Camera Shading & Telecine Transfer Shading), Videotape Editor, and Videotape
Operator (including Loaders, Machine to Machine Transfer.)
INTERACTIVE
MEDIA: 36
months over the past 48 months in a company at an executive position of
director and above or in a senior artistic or technical position related to the
creation of interactive content, services or applications.
MAKEUP
ARTISTS/HAIRSTYLISTS: Employment as a Makeup Artist or Hairstylist on at least 25
hours of programming for national exhibition with a minimum of 2 years
experience.
MUSIC: Composition
of Original Music for 6 hours of programming for national exhibition or the
Theme for a national telecommunications series. Themes must be original works,
written for the specific show submitted. Cue sheets, and in the case of
syndicated shows, a “Producer’s Syndication Listing” must be submitted with the
application for verification of credits or Music Director and Conductor for 6
hours of programming for national exhibition. (Persons who act in a purely
supervisory capacity but use the titles of “Music Director” and/or “Music
Supervisor” are ineligible for Active membership but may be eligible for
Associate membership). Music Director and Conductor for six
hours of programming for national exhibition. (Persons who act in a
purely supervisory capacity but use the titles of “Music Director” and/or
“Music Supervisor” are ineligible for Active membership but may be eligible for
Associate membership) or Credited Writer of the Lyrics or Special Material for
6 hours of programming for national exhibition or the Lyrics for a national
telecommunications theme (Cue sheets must be submitted with application for
verification of credits) or The Arranging and/or Orchestration of the Music for
12 hours of programming for national exhibition. Applicants without the
required number of qualifying hours in a single category may request
consideration under Combined Credits or Acceptance of Combined Credits will be
at the sole discretion of the Music Peer Group Executive Committee. Please note

also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or
distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.
NONFICTION
PROGRAMMING: Primary
professional function and on-air credits in the area of Telecommunications
News, Documentary, Informational or other Nonfiction programming at the
national level. Applicants will have worked for at least 2 years in one of the
following job categories, including but not limited to: Associate Producer,
Coordinating Producer, Executive Producer, Field Producer, Line Producer,
Producer, Production Coordinator, Reporter/Performer, Researcher, Senior
Producer, Segment Producer/Director, Supervising Producer, Writer.
PERFORMERS: 8 credits of
programming for national exhibition in a principal or featured role within the
last 4 years (a principal or featured role is defined as a contracted major
role, or a role consisting of six lines of dialogue or more) or Voice-over
performers with more than half of their eight qualifying credits on-camera.
(Appearances in news magazines and talk shows do not qualify as performance
credits. Appearances in reality programming qualify only if the performer has
been cast in a principal or featured role as defined above).
PRODUCERS: Screen credit
as Executive Producer, Producer or Supervising Producer within the last 4 years
on at least 8 hours of Primetime Specials, Limited Series or Movies for
telecommunications produced for national exhibition or 13 episodes of Primetime
Series produced for national exhibition.
PRODUCTION
EXECUTIVES: Employment
by telecommunications production companies in major executive positions for at
least 2 years within the past 4 years and at least 50% of this work must be for
programs produced for national exhibition.
PROFESSIONAL
REPRESENTATIVES: Employment
in a major executive position providing Legal, Financial, Business or Career
Management Services to artists, production, distribution, broadcasting or
telecommunications companies or unions for at least 3 years and at least 50% of
this work must be in programming.
PUBLIC
RELATIONS: Current
employment at the equivalent of the publicist level or above for at least 2
years; and actively engaged in the publicizing of telecommunications programs,
as opposed to individuals, for national exhibition. This may be in the areas of
Publicity, Photography (staff or unit photographers only) or Promotions or 24
months of accumulated work at the equivalent of the publicist level within the
past 4 years in the publicizing of telecommunications programs, as opposed to
individuals, for national exhibition.
SOUND: Employment in
one or more of the following positions for a total of at least 3 years in
programming for national exhibition within the past 4 years: Audio Recordist, Audio Consultant, Boom Operator, Sound Mixer,
Production Sound Mixer, Front of House Mixer, Re-Recording Mixer, Research and
Development Head, Scoring Mixer, Sound Department Head, Sound Engineer, Foley
Mixer, Music Mixer Production, Audio Assistant.
SOUND
EDITORS: Credit
on at least 25 hours of programming for national exhibition as a Sound
Editor/Sound Effects Editor, Dialogue Editor, Music Editor or Foley Artist.
STUNTS: 10 stunt
contracts (daily, weekly or other free-lance engagement) for programming for
national exhibition with the last 4 years as: Stunt Coordinator, Stunt Double,
Stunt Player (Non-descript), Stunt Player (character role), Stunt Player
(utility), Fight or Aerial Coordinator, Stunt Safety, Safety Stunt Driver.
TELEVISION
EXECUTIVES: Employment
by a television broadcast, cable or distribution company as a senior level
executive (Director or above) for at least three (3) years.
TELEVISION
MOTION PICTURE EDITORS: Screen Credit as Picture Editor on at least 8 hours of
programming for national exhibition. Editors who work in teams of four or more
may only take credit for membership by dividing the number of broadcast hours
by the number of editors credited on each program exhibited nationally in each
season.
TITLE
DESIGN & SPECIAL VISUAL EFFECTS: Title Design: 2 years experience in telecommunications title
design, including graphics, and have designed a minimum of 5 titles for
programs for national exhibition. Special Visual Effects: Verifiable creative
employment in Special Effects for 25 hours of programming for national
exhibition.
WRITERS: Solo or
shared on-air credit on programs for national exhibition in the form “Written
by,” “Teleplay by,” “Story Editor,” “Executive Story Consultant,” or “Created
by” on at least: 2 programs 1 1/2 hours or more in length or 4 one-hour
programs in the drama, comedy, variety or animation genres in any combination
or 6 half-hour programs in the drama, comedy, variety or animation genres in
any combination or 12 hours in daytime serials.
